Ganglion cyst
I forgot to mention it here, but check this out.
The other I was with my friend at uni. I was writing down something and he points horrified at my hand and says “What is that!?”. So I look at my hand, see nothing strange, and ask “what? what is it?”.
“That ball you have there!” he said and pointed at a bump near my wrist. And I said “What, I’ve always had this bump. Doesn’t everyone have it? Don’t you?”.
He didn’t have one. Neither did I on my other hand. So there I noticed, I have this huge bump on my wrist. And I hadn’t even noticed. I wonder how long it’s been there. I’m sure it’s been there for quite a while and it got bigger or something recently. Because, really. I would have noticed it if it had grown so huge overnight. Take a look:

So I named the bump after my friend who discovered it. I did some research online (read: searched on wikipedia) and found out it is a Ganglion cyst. I haven’t gone to the doctor but, you know, Wikipedia knows best.
However, I do plan going to the doctor. In fact I thought of going right away. But then I discovered, shit, my health insurance is expired. Oh wait, not just my health insurace. My whole family’s insurance is non-existant because my mom forgot to renew it, what, months ago? I’ve been walking around this dangerous world with no health insurance! In November we get our insurance back, and then, I can go to the doctor without being robbed by a guy who’s going to tell me that I have a Ganglion cyst.
In conclusion, I have a huge bump on my wrist. It doesn’t hurt. And it looks funny. Don’t you think?

I have recurring ganglion cysts in both of my wrists, but they never get overly large or sore so I just ignore them… as per doctor’s advice.
So in my unprofessional but personally experienced opinion, don’t waste a trip to the doctor until it starts to hurt or swells to a freakishly large size. :)
Ouch! That looks painful. I hope that it turns out to be nothing serious.
omggg!!! gross D: I hope you get it to go away soon!!!
One of my friends had an ovarian cyst. It started growing years ago, and this summer it popped .. thats how she found out it was there. But yeh … she had to have it surgically removed.
I hope you don’t need to go through that, and that its not so serious x_x
Wow, that is a pretty big cyst, but yeah, at the same time I can see how you missed it being there. That’s the sort of thing I would also do, since I have really skinny, bony wrists, I’d just think it was like, the angle I had my arm at, lol!
“Ganglia are especially common in people who perform repetitive or strenuous activity with the wrist.”
If you were male Lene, I’d be questioning what you were doing so strenuously with your wrist! ;)
Oh my god! Please don’t die.
I find it really funny that you didn’t notice. It’s so awesome how sometimes we’re just so unaware of what’s going on with our bodies until it’s pointed out to us.
Oh wow. It looks like it would hurt but I’m glad it doesn’t!
It’s weird that you never noticed but I guess that’s kind of how it is with my fingers… I didn’t even notice they kind of bent weirdly until someone pointed them out. I hope you’ll be okay.
Ummm, what the heck is that? I thought it was a thigh lump at first. Best have it removed as soon as your health insurance renews!
That’s a pretty bracelet, heehee.
I’ve had a small cyst on the underside of my left wrist for YEARS now (childhood?), and it’s never really bothered me on a physical level. The urge to drain it myself never leaves me, though =P
As for medical plans, a whole bunch of good will that do for you! At least when cysts are concerned. I remember once I had a HUGE bump on my right eyelid, and no doctor ever wanted to surgically remove it… even if I was willing to pay cash for it!
when it gets painful is when you want to do something about it!
I had one in my middle finger between my hand and my finger - went to the doctor and he injected steroids - all I can say is it was the most painful thing ever! my hand was on fire afterwards - I couldn’t write for a week.
Now the bastards coming back!!
I haven’t had health insurance for eight years, so I’ve become used to ignoring ailments that could potentially be dangerous. Lucky for me, nothing really bad ever happened in that time and my health insurance from my new job begins in another month. I don’t know how I would react to a huge bump like that, though. I’d probably freak out and assume it was cancer. But good for you on figuring out what it actually was!
*checks wrists* Weird… I have one on both of my wrists. When I first found it I thought it was a mosquito bite but now it’s been on my wrist for years. Do mosquito bites last for years? xD
Sorry to comment on something so old :X
But, I wouldn’t be worried about it, but I’d still go see the doctor about it sometime.
My cousin got one of these when we went skiing, she’s super clumsy and fell on her wrist (the day later she skied into a fence…) but anyway! She burst a fluid sac in her wrist and a ganglion formed. Ever since, every 3 months (or so?) she’s been getting cortisone shots around it from a specialist, and he plans (or said he may plan?.. I’m not sure exactly) on surgically removing it, but only because her’s isn’t like… deep? I don’t know how to describe it!
Anyway ! It’s November! Go get that checked out!
I had surgery to remove a ganglion cyst on my right hand 8 years ago, now I’m about to have surgery on my right wrist next week for the exact same problem. I got the routine stuff done like having it deadened and aspirated and it came back bigger each time. Everytime i look @ my right hand I get disgusted and not to mention that the cyst hurts at times also. Surgery is the way to go if you have a cyst the recurrs in the same place!!!
